Once you submit your request for a long-distance moving quote, your moving company will pair you with a dedicated moving coordinator who will prepare an Order for Service. This document outlines every aspect of your relocation process. If you choose packing services, the packing team will arrive before your scheduled move to carefully pack all your belongings. When the day of the move arrives, a professional moving team will come to load your items into the moving vehicle and supply you with am inventory, which acts as both a receipt and legal contract for your possessions. The crew will verify and sign off on each item listed in the inventory as they deliver your belongings to your new home. Once the unloading process is complete, the team lead will perform a comprehensive final inspection with you to cover any outstanding questions or concerns about your relocation.Moving for the First Time?
Begin planning your move 6-8 weeks ahead of when you actually need to move. This gives you time to sort through your belongings and avoid last-minute stress.

The cost of a long-distance move can vary greatly depending on distance, quantity of items, and total weight. “A long-distance move can cost between $1,050 and $12,700. Long-distance moves cost more than shorter distances under 250 miles because the moving company will need to factor in additional expenses, like extra fuel and time,” this Forbes article states.
Ravan Moving & Storage provides transparent, upfront estimates with no hidden fees. “In-home estimates allow our team to provide the most accurate pricing for your situation and belongings,” explains Colby Ravan, Vice President of Ravan Moving & Storage. Schedule your free estimate by contacting our Saint Augustine location or filling out our online estimate form.
Long-distance moves typically include loading, unloading, furniture disassembly/reassembly, and transportation. “Additional services, also known as “accessorial services,” are all the different jobs a moving company can perform for you—aside from delivering your things from point A to B. Of course, these extras come at added cost to you, and the pricing depends on the service,” states Move.org. Extra services include packing, unpacking, specialty item moving, and estate cleanouts.
As a Preferred Movers Network member, Ravan Moving & Storage includes standard services in all long-distance moves. We also offer additional services like comprehensive packing and specialty moves, including senior relocations, medical facility moves, and labor-only services. “Our services are meant to make your life easier, so we provide a range of options to choose from to best fit your needs,” states Colby Ravan, Vice President.
Professional moving companies know what to do to properly protect your items, using padded trucks, moving blankets, straps, and dollies to protect them during the moving process. When you add packing services, companies use high-quality materials for additional protection. According to Moving.com, “Professional packers generally work for moving companies. They are responsible for expertly wrapping and boxing up the items in a household.”
Ravan Moving & Storage’s trained movers take extra precautions during loading and unloading to handle your valuables carefully. We use padded trucks, protective blankets, and dollies, with professional packing and unpacking services for an additional fee. “When you choose us to secure your items, our team will visit your home on a chosen date several days before your move to pack up your belongings with care,” explains Colby Ravan, Vice President. Check our Packing Services page for more details.
Within the moving industry, the two primary types of moving valuation include:
Limited Liability Coverage: According to federal law, all moving companies must provide Limited Liability Coverage at no additional cost. This means that moving companies must compensate you at least 60 cents per pound for each item lost or damaged during the move.
Full Value Protection: For an additional fee, Full-Value Protection offers customers a more enhanced and extensive coverage option. According to the FMCSA, “Under Full Value Protection, your mover is responsible for the replacement value of lost or damaged goods in your entire shipment.”
“We prioritize giving our Saint Augustine customers comprehensive options when it comes to safeguarding their belongings,” says Colby Ravan, Vice President of Ravan Moving & Storage.
We offer double the minimum coverage for intrastate / local at $1.20 per pound with no deductible or charge to you.
We encourage you to discuss options with our team during your moving consultation so we can help you choose the protection plan that best fits your needs and budget. Our move coordinators will explain both coverage options and answer any questions you have about protecting your belongings during the moving process.
In the rare and unfortunate event that you need to file a claim, you have 9 months from the date of your move. We are more than happy to assist in the process.
Long-distance moves typically take 10 to 14 days, though some may extend up to three weeks. According to moveBuddha, “A local move for a small apartment might take just a few hours, while a cross-country move for a larger home could take several weeks to over a month. Proper planning and organization can significantly streamline the process.” Delivery dates vary based on distance, the complexity of the move, and your moving company’s availability. It’s important to establish timeline expectations with your moving specialist in advance.
Ravan Moving & Storage provides your estimated delivery date before you sign with us and gives specific timeframes so you know what to expect. “We plan and execute every move according to your timeline and prepare accordingly to avoid any delays,” states Colby Ravan, Vice President.
Reliable moving companies should employ background-checked, experienced movers with professional training in all types of moves. “Professional moving companies bring a wealth of knowledge and experience. They’re trained in efficient packing, loading and transportation and know how to care for your items so they make it to your new location safely,” states USA Today. However, some companies hire seasonal workers during busy summer months. Avoid companies that rely on temporary movers, as they may lack the necessary experience and training.
Ravan Moving & Storage employs experienced, long-term staff who receive professional training and undergo background checks. “Our training program covers handling techniques, packing methods, and loading and unloading procedures, ensuring that our movers have the appropriate experience and training necessary to provide excellent service,” explains Colby Ravan, Vice President. Federal law requires moving companies to have a United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) license for long-distance moves. Long-distance moving companies must also follow FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations. According to moveBuddha, “Those subject to FMCSA regulations include interstate and intrastate motor carriers… This includes both for-hire and private motor carriers and cargo van operators. Drivers of these vehicles are also subject to FMCSA regulations, including registration requirements, hours of service regulations, drug and alcohol testing requirements, medical certificates, and employment qualifications.” Movers operating within Florida must also be registered with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS).
Ravan Moving & Storage is fully licensed and insured as required by local, state, and federal law, including full insurance coverage for general liability and workers’ compensation.
“Our comprehensive licensing demonstrates our commitment and dedication to upholding the highest standards in the moving industry,” states Colby Ravan, Vice President. “We believe in conducting business with complete integrity and transparency.”
